Why not take a little time on Saturday and celebrate St. Nicholas Day? St. Nicholas taught the story of Christ simply, so all people could understand. He lived his faith and devotion to God in helping the poor and all in need. Pointing to the Babe born in a manger in Bethlehem, he encouraged peace and goodwill toward all—the hope-filled Christmas message.
Set aside some time with your loved ones to have a special tea with a slice of Dundee Cake or other favorite holiday confection. The Dundee Cake receipt (a Tasha Tudor term for recipe) can be found in the Tasha Tudor Cookbook, or here with Jennifer's recipes on the family website. My friend Suzanne over at Blueberry Cottage has a photo of them on this post. I always think about Tasha Tudor on St. Nicholas Day; especially after watching the Take Peace video and watching her climb on the chair (gasp!) to hang her lovely advent wreath with the special red ribbons from her parents' wedding. I imagine she will be taking tea and Dundee Cake in heaven with the angels and her loved ones and Corgis who have gone before her. Can't you just picture it?
Wishing you all a Happy St. Nicholas Day and a lovely weekend!
Warmly,
Cathy ^..^

my sister lives over in the Netherlands and she says St. Nicholas Day (but its called something different over there) is a very much celebrated day; she said she was shopping the other day and it was so crowded with people getting what they wanted for that day; I remember growing up we always put a sock out to be filled with nuts and small candies

I became acquainted with Tasha Tudor's lifestyle while working as a librarian. That's when my love affair with corgis began. I have all those videos and watch them each holiday season. What a life she lived.
Your art work is so much fun for a corgi addict.
Happy St. Nicholas Day to you too. I am going to do a post on it later today after our dundee cake and tea are taken:-) In the Waldorf circles seems the elf Rupert (remember our St. Bernard is named this) was his helper. Interesting legend, will share later. YOu have a blast at Sis Boom--wish I was going with you!!!
Thank you so much for that delightful post!!! I just savored every bit of it and I adore your wonderful Corgi print! You are such a talent!
I must look up that recipe--thanks for the link.
Hope you're having a great weekend. Dana
We love Saint Nicolas Day at our house. I just posted my blog about our dinner... hope you enjoyed the day too!
