Help for Haiti

Watching the devastation in Haiti just saturates my heart with grief and a feeling of helplessness. When disasters happen I want to help and sometimes I just don't know the best way to help from my little corner of the world. I hear about so many scams when a disaster strikes and I wonder if money I send will actually get to the people I intend it for. I'm sharing with you a link that I believe in my heart to be a good place to send help. All my life I have attended and been a part of Corpus Christi Church and School. The Salesian Sisters are good women and I know many of them personally. From their website: "The Salesian Sisters are mobilizing to assist the earthquake victims in Haiti. Our Sisters have six (6) works (schools, boarding schools, orphanages, welcome centers for street children, literacy centers, oratories and youth centers) in Port Au Prince and their houses and schools have suffered major damage. Thank God, all are alive and only one Sister is in the hospital.
The neighboring Salesian Sisters communities in the Dominican Republic are also sending groups of volunteers to Port Au Prince to assist the Haitian Sisters in the relief efforts." I have seen these Sisters stretch a dollar like you would not believe. I am confident that any money sent to them will be put to good use to help in this disaster. Bad things happen in this world. They just do. One thing I've learned through these Sisters is that God uses us all to help put back the pieces and bring His comfort and peace to those in need. I invite you to visit our dear sisters at http://www.salesiansisters.org and help them bring relief to our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Warmly, Cathy

I agree with you Cathy! When it comes to donating money to a worthy cause sometimes there are a lot of scams out there. I to think that it is best to donate directly to the missionaries that are and have been in Haiti for years. They know the people and they know their great need. My Pastor was roommates with a man who is a missionary in Haiti for 20 years. He is a Doctor and his wife is a teacher. Our church has always sponsored his ministry and that is where I will be making a donation from our family. I do hope that others consider making their donations to missionaries that we know to be true to the people in Haiti.

Hugs,
Angela

Sounds like a good place to help, Angela! I hope your pastor's missionary friend and his wife are safe and get the supplies they need. xo xo

Thank you Cathy for being so generous to mention this on your blog. There are a lot of scams out there, but there are also a lot of good organizations. I have never heard of the sisters you mentioned so it's a good thing to have learned about!

I think you do have to know where and what and who you are making donations too - you are exactly right.

Thanks God for organizations like the sisters! I agree about being skeptical about donations, so support missionaries where the money gets to them directly. This sounds like a great place to donate too!

Agree with you completely, Cathy. One feels so helpless and horrible when something like this happens. I posted links to the American Red Cross and Unicef on Stella's blog, but appreciate the links you provided as well. Good job!

That is so great that you were sharing about a good way to help in the Haiti crisis! It is always good to try to let others know about good, reliable charities out there that you can be sure will help. We give through Operation Blessing from the 700 Club... another reliable charity. Thanks for the info though! Linda from Corgi Country
