"Life isn't long enough to do all you could accomplish. And what a privilege even to be alive. In spite of all the pollutions and horrors, how beautiful this world is.
Supposing you only saw the stars once every year. Think what you would think. The wonder of it!"--Tasha Tudor

100 already? Let's celebrate!

On Sunday I popped in to visit my Grandmother Grace's oldest friend, Mildred. "Gracie" past away a couple of years ago. Mildred, who just turned 100 misses her a lot. We all do. Mildred and Gracie (don't you just love those good old fashioned names...Gracie and Mildred??) have been through quite a bit together in their lives, marriages, births, the "Great Depression," deaths. They were friends for 70 years. I love listening to her stories, many of which I've heard 100's of times, but they never get old. Gracie was some cook. Her meatballs were legend. I made a batch over the weekend and brought some of 'Gracie's meatballs' to Mildred. Mildred proceeded to tell me how during the Depression, Gracie would always find something to cook. She loved to cook. We used to kid her that she could make an 8 course meal from a head of lettuce. Mildred told me how Gracie always shared whatever she had. If she had 2 she'd give you 1. If she had 1, you'd get half.

I think blogs are cool. I think blogging may just be where our stories are told. A blog can inspire me, inform me, relax me, help me figure out what to cook for dinner, or just plain make me laugh. I have recently made my 100th post to this blog. To celebrate 'my 100' I will have a fun little give-away contest right here!

This give-away will be open to all subscribers to my mailing list. (fun and free!) The box on the left of this blog will let you easily subscribe. Rest assured that your personal information is never sold or shared. Now, what shall we do for our little contest? I know! All you have to do between now and November 10 (which would have been Gracie's birthday) is to leave a comment on this post telling which of my posts (see archives!) was your favorite. One of the resident Corgis will help me to choose a winner and the prize for this giveaway shall be a 10 pack of the new nifty sized 'notecards' and a brand new mug from my CafePress online Pembroke Welsh Corgi store in your choice of design. Then you will have a bit of fun Corgi-ness to enjoy some delicious hot cocoa and marshmallows this Winter while you read your favorite blogs! Have a happy week! Corgishly, CS ^..^

Yogi and Whoopie Pies

This absolutely lovely (and loveable!) fluffy boy's name is "Yogi." Yogi is
Baymoor Anwyll Quillan and is owned and loved by Wendy Shapiro of Rhode Island. Yogi is working on an obedience title and gave Wendy a nice birthday and anniversary present in September by scoring 2nd place in his pre-novice class with a score of 190.5 Whooo hoooo! Way to go, Yogi!

I just could not resist trying out my friend Suzanne's very own recipe for her 'Pumpkin Whoopie Pies.' You can find the 'receipt' (a Tasha Tudor term for recipe) on Suzanne's website http://www.blueberrycottagenaturals.com/ The hardest part was keeping my husband away from them as they were cooling and before they were filled! Dieters, beware! -CS ^..^

Saboteurs

There are days when all of the little creatures that surround me seem to use their powers for evil. Take Skittles, for example. We have precious little closet space, so I tend to use baskets to store things. While washing all of the towels (which are usually rolled up to fit nicely in the basket) Skittles decided to take a cat nap in this empty basket. After the towels were dry and put back in, he thought it was a lovely idea just to sleep on the towels. I'd take him out, he'd go back in. This battle of wills lasted for a few days until I decided to just take the towels out and give him a little fleece of his own. He looks very content knowing he won this bout, doesn't he?

I also have a constant battle with the woodland creatures. Sometimes I don't know if it is the deer, the squirrels or the chipmunks who do the most damage. I think they feel that I am their personal sous chef and that everything I grow or bring home is for their own personal buffet. Look at what they did to my poor pumpkin! An Autumn feast. I have not caught them in the act, but I fear they will be back for more.
And with friends.

I took a cup of coffee outside with me this morning before starting some chores. After I snapped this pumpkin photo I decided to take a photo of Bridget who was at my heels. She became instantly distracted.

What grabbed her attention? Another saboteur...

(queue the scary music....)

The wicked Amy, running from the woods with her slobbery hedgie! Way to much for any self-respecting Corgi to resist. We did manage to get one photo, however!

Have a happy day! -CS ^..^
