Happiness is....
It is not difficult to put a smile on Debbie Harper's face. Simply set her into a pile of warm Corgi puppies! Bridget's puppies seem to have made her one of the pack. The question: how to move without waking them all up? hmmm....
I'm so grateful to Debbie for always being there to help with puppies. I always learn so much from her. She is a treasure.

The puppies did their best to enchant Cindy Read as well. Dig those groovy tie dye socks, Cindy! Whoo hoo! -CS ^..^

More cuteness...

The puppies are growing every day. It is so fun to watch their little personalities emerge. Bridget is the best mom ever. She loves her babies. It is raining here today, the snow is melting and the yard is a muddy mess. We have lots of towels near the door to wipe their paws. I feel like all I've been doing is washing puppy fleeces and wet towels. Where is the sun? -CS ^..^

Happy Valentine's Day!
We woke up this morning to snow and sleet. It is still coming down out there. The Corgis moved from their little warm spot near the wood burning stove to have a quick frap (frantic random act of play) in the icy snow. Indy was so funny out there. He was just spinning around. Click the photo to enlarge. You can see he is in action! This was taken just before Bailey pounced on him. The next thing I knew, they were both ready to come inside and their little noses were sniffing the air. They smelled the 'heart shaped French Toast' I was making for breakfast. Whenever I make French Toast, I think of Harley, Indy's sire. Once, when Harley was visiting for a few days from my friend Mary Elizabeth's house, I found him standing with all four paws on the kitchen table. He had gobbled down an entire plate of French Toast and was licking the last of the maple syrup. Harley was a Champion, who quite often when showing would jump right up onto the judging table. I guess that morning he decided to use his powers for evil :) Little stinker that he was. These little Corgis come into our lives for such a short time, but surely hold our hearts forever. My Valentine's Day wish for all of us is that we be truly present in every blessed moment and never take for granted all of the loved ones in our lives....

Valentines!

These are some of the Valentines I made for a Valentine exchange with some 'kindred spirits.' I used the miniature original painting that you see on the little easel for the image and inspiration. The tiniest cards, which are about 1-2 inches are for an exchange between our dolls! They were inspired by Tasha Tudor's 'Sparrow Post.' (Click image to enlarge.)-CS ^..^

Miniature Corgi Paintings....

I took this photo this afternoon in my outside porch. Yes, those are my still lingering Christmas decorations you see :) This little Original painting comes with its own stained wood artist's easel which is approx. 2 1/2" across and 4 3/4" tall. The painting itself is approx. 2 3/4" tall x just under 2" wide. The 'frame' is 'faux' and is painted on as part of the miniature painting itself. I've decided to call these little artworks 'Micro Paintings." They can be listed as OSWOA or Original Small Works Of Art. Note the size of the painting and easel next to the clove-studded orange. You may have noticed the two crazy Corgis in the bottom of my Ebay listing. They are Indy and Bridget. Indy jumped up and caused me to snap the photo so I took it as a sign that he wanted to be included in the photo shoot. The photo is half cut off, but that is what happens when you let Corgis take pictures!

Christmas Peace

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men." Luke 2: 7-14

Merry Christmas!
I would like to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas! I am so very grateful for all of your wonderful notes and emails (especially the ones with all of the Corgi pics!) and appreciation of my artwork. Thank you for making this a wonderful year! May God bless you and those you love. Give all of your Corgis and other critters a Christmas kiss on the nose for me. Happy 2007! Warmly, Cathy ^..^

Cash and James

Aren't these two little rascals just darling? This is 'Cash' (Reinwood One For The Money) who is sired by Gabe (CH. Tallyrand No Greater Love) out of Bridget (CH. Heronsway Two For The Show) and her little playmate 'James' (Zydahayes Admiral Salute) who flew over from England. (Told you Corgis could fly! :) !!) I assure you, they are all ready to get into some serious Christmas mischief. Photo by Kenneth Reed. -CS ^..^

The Lighting

The Christmas season just doesn't begin for me without what we refer to as 'The Lighting.' Last night, at the home of my dear friends, Sylvia and Ted DeGiacomo, we gathered together to witness the wonderous sights that have been created by 2 of their very talented sons. Edward and David spend months creating a spectacular Christmas display. This year it had an amazing twist. The entire display was choreographed and synchronized to 'dance' to music which you could tune into on a station on your radio dial. Amazing! The photos I took don't even begin to show how beautiful it is. We managed to tear ourselves away from the light show, where inside the house awaited a feast for the eyes and the belly. Parties at Sylvia's house always involve good friends and family, delicious food and yummy treats. One of my favorite things at Sylvia's is her candle collection. She has had these little vintage wax candles for many years. The 'choir' holds a place of honor above the mantel and the rest of her collection sits on the piano greeting lucky visitors with Christmas cheer. Click on the photos to enlarge. Merry Christmas!

Don't try this at home.....

Think it is easy to put lights on a Christmas wreath with help from Corgis? Think again! My husband is trying to reason with them to get their little paws off of it. This plan doesn't seem to be working. :) I guess they thought decorating was much more interesting than whatever they were up to. -CS ^..^

Happy Thanksgiving!

Corgis! I have come to realize that it is pretty impossible to make apple pies around here without having these little short-legged furries begging for apples. Bailey has once again given herself the title of Chief Turkey Inspector. She has not left the front of the oven. Indy is hoping that someone will drop a sweet potato. Bridget has lost her mind. She can't believe there is all of this food on tables everywhere and she can't reach it. She is plotting her strategy, however. I wanted to share this lovely photo of my dear friend, Mary Elizabeth Simpson and Maize with this little orphan deer, taken a few weeks ago. ( Mary Elizabeth and I own Reinwood Pembroke Welsh Corgis. ) I'm not sure if Maize knows just what to make of this little deer! I wish you all a wonderful, blessed and safe Thanksgiving surrounded by those you love. -CS ^..^

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween from all of us to all of you! Check out the ears and that face on Weebles, top left. She was asleep in a window when my daughter took this photo. Geez! Check out those wicked ears on her and Indy's glowing eyes (far right in the jelly beans.) Ooooooohhhh...spooky! They usually look quite normal, I assure you. We'll blame it on Halloween! -CS ^..^ p.s. click on photos to enlarge!

The Great Jack O'Lantern Blaze...

Normally at Van Cortlandt Manor, in the historic Hudson Valley of New York, you can experience the domestic life of a patriot family living in the years just after the American Revolution. In October, thoughts around here shift from blacksmithing, open-hearth cooking, spinning and weaving, to Jack O'Lanterns. Over 3000 hand carved Jack O'Lanterns transform the historic grounds at Van Cortlandt Manor into a lantern-lit, awe-inspiring night walk, rain or shine. Fear not the weather, as they offer lots of warm and delicious Autumn inspired goodies to warm your insides, like hot cocoa and cider, carmel apples and of course, pumpkin bread. Lots of pumpkin bread. Last week, I went to the Blaze with dear friends. Yesterday, we took my daughter and her fellow Girl Scouts early in the day as volunteer lighters. The photo above is the manor house before the magic of nightfall transforms the place into a Jack O'Lantern wonderland. Some of the pumpkins are simply cut into traditional faces, but the majority are intricate designs ranging from tropical fish to Celtic knots to flowers that seem to be growing right out of the historic garden beds. Go here for more information about this or their many other wonderful programs, including the upcoming "Legend Weekend" in Sleepy Hollow, where the Headless Horseman still rides. I have seen him with my own eyes :) -CS ^..^

Happy Birthday Bailey!
Our sweet Bailey Braveheart By The Sea, CGC, Herding Instinct Certified. It is hard to believe she is 10 years old today! When I look in her eyes, I still see the same little puppy she once was. In her heart, she is, as well!

Corgi friends....

Question: What is better than friends stopping by to visit? Answer: Friends stopping by to visit with their Corgi! Here is Betony, owned and loved by Cindy Read and Nancy Boyd. Betony was so sweet to bring us the lovely mums, treats for her Corgi friends here, and the cutest little pumpkin. Bridget showed Betony her favorite little trail up toward the woods and a good time was had by all, human and Corgyn alike!

They never forget...

We attended our Corgi Club's (Mayflower) Fall Match yesterday in Connecticut. The skies opened at the crack of dawn and poured buckets of rain on human and Corgyn alike. Thank goodness for the huge gazebo that provided shelter for us all. In spite of being soaked to the skin and muddy Corgis, we all had a nice day. An added bonus to the puppy match was the 'Best Fluffy' contest and the Parade of Champions, Veterans and Titleholders. I entered my best friend, Indy, into the Champion Veterans. He hasn't been shown in years, but it is amazing how putting on his little show collar transformed him back into a little show dog...muddy paws and all. Of course, once the collar came off, he immediately had both paws on the picnic table and tried to steal someone's dessert. He wanted me to take this picture of him wearing his commemorative rosette. He is handsome, is he not? ^..^ CS

Calvin the Super Corgi....

Greetings, Corgi friends! I just had to share this photo, taken this weekend, of my friend Diane Polito's Corgi, Janry's Calvin Klein, MX, MXJ, MJP, AJP, CGC, PHC, NAC-V, NJC-V; better known as "Calvin." Just look at those awards!
As Diane's "Novice A" dog, Calvin was halfway to his Agility Championship (MACH) before he became deathly ill in 2003 from Ehlrichia equi, a disease carried by ticks. He survived, and has been battling it for almost three years now. He can no longer use his hind end to walk but gets around very well in his special doggy cart. Check him out in his doggy cart on his home page http://www.njcorgis.com/Calvin.html Having dealt with this horrific disease with one of my own Corgis, I encourage you to learn all you can about it, diagnosing it, preventing it and treating it. Diane has links to some good info through Calvin's page.
